Canyoning de l’Alloix
This predominantly vertical canyoning near Grenoble and Chambéry is well and truly a Chartreuse classic. Best done at the beginning of the season when the flow is interesting, this is a canyon that prepares you for the long vertical descent, with numerous waterfalls over 15 metres.
Le chemin du facteur, a pleasant hike that starts in Montalieu and goes to the plateau des petites roches, cuts through the canyon in several places, offering splendid views to hikers.
This same path crosses the canyon’s 45-metre waterfall , which you’ll abseil down on a spider’s thread, with your feet no longer resting on the rock as the waterfall tumbles overhead – a guaranteed thrill that’ll leave you with fond memories.
A few jumps are possible in sun-drenched basins in emerald water.
The canyon can be combined with the via ferrata overlooking the Alloix to complete the day.
Don’t wait any longer, come and discover or rediscover this jewel of the Chartreuse.

How will your canyoning trip take place in Grenoble?
You’ve set your sights on the Alloix canyon, a predominantly vertical canyon very close to Grenoble and Chambéry.
For this route, it’s best to have already done some abseiling and to plan your descent at the beginning of the season, as this canyon is located in the southern foothills of the Chartreuse massif and dries out in summer. Once you’ve booked with Terra Nova Canyoning either online or by phone, we’ll send you an e-mail containing all the information you need to make sure your outing goes smoothly, what you need to learn, what you need to tell us and the coordinates of the meeting point. All you have to do is get to the meeting point on the date you’ve chosen to descend the Alloix canyon.
On the day of the canyoning trip, we’ll meet in the parking lot to get kitted out. This will also be an opportunity to discuss your canyoning experience, so that your instructor can advise you on abseiling techniques. so that you can play an active role in your outing.
Once everyone’s ready, it’s off to the car shuttle, which means we leave one car at the bottom and take the others up to the start of the canyon, avoiding a long walk in a wetsuit to save all our strength for canyoning.
The canyon starts with a short via ferrata and a spider-wire abseil to arrive in a turquoise basin watered by two waterfalls. A short warm-up before tackling the 45m abseil with a breathtaking view of the Belledonne mountain range.
All along the canyon de l’Alloix, you’ll progress with your guide, who’ll install abseiling and handrails and look after your safety.
He’ll also take the opportunity to make a few phots, which he’ll send to you free of charge at the end of the canyon, ideal for making friends drool and introducing them to the great canyons around Grenoble.
After several abseils, you’ll reach the end of the canyoning section, where a short walk will take you back to the car left at the bottom of the canyon, where you’ll be able to remove your equipment.
You’ll then be free to go about your business. You can also talk to your guide about other possible routes, such as the Furon canyon near Grenoble, which is more aquatic, or the great verticals of over 100m in the Crapanoz canyon (reservation only on request).
