Furon canyoning (Vercors/Grenoble)
Isère’s best-known canyon
With more than 10,000 visits per year canyon du Furon towards Grenoble is the most popular canyon in the Auvergne Rhône Alpes region. Its success is undoubtedly due to its well-balanced mix of jumps, slides and abseiling, as well as its location right next to Grenoble, the capital of the Alps.
Less than 10 minutes from Grenoble city center, you can go canyoning!
The Furon canyon is not a crowded canyon, however.
Sometimes, on the big summer weekends, there’s a bit of a wait before the obstacles (3 or 4 days a year), but for the most part progress is smooth, and you can enjoy this activity in a wild setting. It’s a must-do descent in Isère, especially in its day version(full furon canyon), which gives a real insight into canyoning as a whole.
The upper part of the Furon canyon (Engins commune)
The upper part of the Furon canyon, near Villard de Lans and Lans en Vercors, is great fun.
Accessible in 15 minutes from Grenoble and 50 minutes from Lyon, this is a great introductory canyon.
The highest obstacle is 10 meters high, but can be avoided. This is the most fun part, with numerous slides and jumps (always optional). There’s also a 25m-long zip line, and the return journey takes just 25 minutes, after a short via ferrata.
The lower part of the Furon canyon (commune of Sassenage)
The lower part of the Furon canyon just outside Grenoble is more vertical.
The obstacles are higher and the abseils more numerous, but they remain very accessible to all.
The instructor will explain the different techniques and possibilities so that you feel perfectly at ease. The end of the canyon is magnificent, with a series of 3 basins allowing jumps of 8m and 7m. This is Grenoble’s canyon, along with its big brother, the canyon de l’Infernet.
If you choose the full version of the Furon canyon, you’ll descend both sections in 6 hours, with a lunch break in the middle, ideal for canyoneers wishing to discover the activity in its entirety! Don’t wait any longer to reserve your place, here it is!
