A grand canyon just a stone’s throw from Grenoble
Canyoning des Oulles du Diable is one of the great canyoning descents in France.
Located between Grenoble and Gap in the Valgaudemar valley, this canyoning trip, which has its source in the Vieux Chaillol glacier, is open from late August. Part of the mythical trilogy: Oulles de Freissinières, canyon de la Meije and canyoning Oulles du diable, these three canyons all share a high water flow and a wild, rugged atmosphere.
Les Oulles du Diables, which you can discover from the banks by taking the short hike from Chapelle en Valgaudemar, is a jewel of a canyon, with numerous jumps and slides, abseils that are sometimes technical and active, and a need to be comfortable in the water and have some canyoning experience to consider this descent.
You’ll come away from this canyon full of sensations and memories, and you’ll no doubt want to go and see what the Meije canyon is like, to continue your adventure. To prepare for this type of canyon, you can descend the Ecouges in its entirety at the start of the season, so as to familiarize yourself with the active descent and the stirring basins!
The ideal practice period is between mid-August and the end of September. In some years, when the accumulation of snow is too great, the descent is not possible.
